Welcome to Wellborn!

Missions

Missions is the heartbeat of everything we do at Wellborn Baptist Church.  The reason?  Missions is the heartbeat of God Himself.  Jesus told us, "As the Father has sent me, so send I you."

The mandate of the Great Commission has world-wide implications.  We actively involve ourselves, individually and corporately, on every level.  Here are some of our areas of involvement.

Local Missions

Vivid Visions -an organization dedicated to the care of those who are the victims of domestic violence.

Pregnancy Crisis Center - dedicated to helping women who find themselves in the midst of an unwanted pregnancy and helping to provide an alternative to abortion.

Christian Service Center - an ecumenical organization that assists those in need with a variety of ministries, including: clothing, food, traveler's aid, etc.

Suwannee Missionary Baptist Association - our local association of Baptist churches affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.  Suwannee Association is made up of 39 churches in Suwannee and Hamilton counties.  Our pastor is the current moderator of the association; our Men's Ministries Coordinator serves as the Brotherhood Director; and, our Minister to Students serves as the Associational Youth Coordinator. The association website may be accessed by clicking here.

State Missions

Florida Baptist Children's Homes - Wellborn supports the children's homes in a variety of ways every year.  Support is routed through the Cooperative Program, through participation in the Mother's Day offering, through an extra monthly gift equal to 1/2% of our monthly receipts and through a special effort in the fall to help stock the pantry.

Baptist College of Florida - the Baptist College of Florida has as its purpose is to educate and train those individuals whom God has called to serve Him in a multitude of forms and places around the world.  Again, our support begins through the Cooperative Program, but we have set aside an additional monthly gift equal to 1/2% of our monthly receipts to support this educational cause.  Our pastor recently began a three year term as a trustee of BCF.

Florida Baptist Convention - The Florida Baptist Convention is the cooperative effort of 2,203 churches and 608 church-type missions. Each church is an autonomous body of baptized believers who are associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Wellborn supports this cooperative work of social ministries, evangelism, church planting and church development through the Cooperative Program and through our participation each September in the Maguire State Missions Offering.

National Missions

Southern Baptist Convention - The Southern Baptist Convention is the cooperative effort of over 42,000 churches.  As in the state convention, each church is an autonomous body of baptized believers who are associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel of Jesus Christ.  Through this cooperative effort, we support six seminaries, an effort to influence our legislative process toward Christian principles (Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission), as well as national and international missions efforts.  The national effort, the North American Mission Board, is supported not only by the Cooperative Program but by the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.

Through a cooperative effort through our association and state convention, members of Wellborn Baptist Church have been actively involved in West Virginia partnership missions.

International Missions

International Mission Board -Through the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board, Wellborn Baptist Church helps to minister in more than 153 nations and among thousands of people groups.  Beyond our Cooperative Program support, Wellborn participates in the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.  Our senior pastor, Dr. Don Minshew and his wife, Carol, served through the IMB for almost 15 years in Portugal, Angola, Kenya and Namibia just prior to coming to serve here at Wellborn.

Amazon Vision Ministries - Recently, members of Wellborn have traveled to do medical and children's work along the Amazon River near Manaus, Brazil through Amazon Vision Ministries

Other members have served through Baptist and ecumenical groups in Iraq, Haiti and Honduras.
